Due to the regulations and restrictions that come with it, COVID-19 has been detrimental to many small businesses around the world and here in our own backyard. Many services have suffered throughout the pandemic as nobody and nothing is immune yet.
There is a COVID-19 outbreak at the Samaritan House Ministries’ Safe and Warm Shelter announced on Saturday, and the location (820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon) has now been put under level red on the Pandemic Response System. There is no information on how many people have been infected, or how many are needed to self-isolate.
According to the Samaritan House, the shelter is now closed until it can be safely reopened. However, the food hamper program will continue.
The shelter’s Facebook page says staff will be monitoring a modified food bank hampers handout this week starting today at noon. Hampers will be available for this week from Monday to Friday and next Monday and Tuesday from 12 to 3 p.m. only in the parking lot at 820 Pacific Avenue. Anyone using the food hampers will be asked to line up on the sidewalk towards the west and maintain good social distancing.
There will also be no Home Nutrition Program deliveries during the outbreak as well.
